About Us

Welcome to the Brookston family blog. We'll post updates here on what's going on in our part of the world, and especially with our son, Porter, who has been diagnosed with some form of autism. Our hope is that this blog will help us deal with all the issues we'll be facing and keep our friends and family informed as well.

Welcome to Dutch Wonderland

Categories: News, Trips — J @ 7:36 pm

We arrived in Pennsylvania right on time in the early evening. After picking up our rental car, we headed west to my Grandmother’s house in Mohnton, just outside of Reading, PA.

It was a little strange being in my Grandmother’s house after she was gone. It felt oddly empty but looked the same, too. After a long day traveling, we picked up some Cheesesteaks from the Mohnton Navy Yard, a restaurant owned by my cousin and her husband, and turned in early.

Da Plane, Da Plane!

Categories: Photos, Porter, Trips — J @ 6:38 pm

We had early flight Tuesday morning to Philadelphia. Wrangling both the kids for the flight was a first for us, we’d only traveled with just Porter before this. We tried pack as lightly as possible, but it still seemed like we had tons of stuff. Anyway, we made it to the Oakland Airport and onto the plane pretty smoothly.

Porter strapped in for the flight to Dutch Wonderland. Since there were four of us, we grabbed the inside two seats in the first two rows.

Having the bulkhead meant that once the seatbelt light was turned off, Porter had just enough room to build a small train layout on the floor of the plane.

The kids did great on the flight, and Porter slept the last three hour of the flight including through the entire landing. Alice did almost as well, sleeping about as long. She woke up during the landing, however, most likely due to her ears popping which would have been a new thing for her. But for a first flight, she did terrific.
