About Us

Welcome to the Brookston family blog. We'll post updates here on what's going on in our part of the world, and especially with our son, Porter, who has been diagnosed with some form of autism. Our hope is that this blog will help us deal with all the issues we'll be facing and keep our friends and family informed as well.

The Stairmaster

Categories: Photos, Alice, Movies — J @ 4:16 pm

Okay, yesterday I thought I was going crazy. I was in the kitchen with Porter and I heard Alice fussing in the living room and then it got quiet. I went to look for her and, amazingly, found her upstairs. Well, I certainly didn’t remember leaving her upstairs with the gate open but there was no other likely explanation so I quietly chastised myself and thought no more about it. Until today, that is. I was upstairs in Porter’s room for a very short time and could hear Alice fussing at the bottom of the stairs as she so often does. But when I went back to get her, she was no longer at the bottom of the stairs. She was on the landing, four steps up. Watching her throughout the day, I finally caught her and yes indeed, she may not be able to walk yet, but she can climb the stairs. And she’s pretty fast, too. Turn your back and she’s up like a shot. This is going to present something of a challenge because Porter isn’t very good at remembering to close the gate behind him when he goes up and down the stairs.

The Stairmaster

Here’s a Quicktime movie of Alice climbing the stairs from the living room to the landing. You can either download the movie to your desktop or just click on the link to play it in your web browser (assuming your web browser has the quicktime plug-in installed).
