About Us

Welcome to the Brookston family blog. We'll post updates here on what's going on in our part of the world, and especially with our son, Porter, who has been diagnosed with some form of autism. Our hope is that this blog will help us deal with all the issues we'll be facing and keep our friends and family informed as well.

Dangling

Alice was sitting on the ottoman of our rocking chair last night before bedtime, dangling her feet and kicking them with excitement. It was very cute.

Dangling Cuteness.

Inexplicably, when we told Porter to take off his shoes he tried to wear them on his ears.

Taco Salad Leftovers

Categories: Photos, Alice, Food — J @ 4:31 pm

Our last stop in our outing was the taco shop, where we picked up a late lunch. We brought it back for Sarah and we all ate at the dinig room table. Sarah had a taco salad but was unable to finish all of it and left much of the shell. Alice decided she had not had enough rice and beans and proceeded to help Sarah finish her taco salad.

Mommy won’t mind if I have some of her taco salad.

But I’ll keep my toothbrush with me, just in case.

Hmm. Taco salad shell.

I think I can fit this whole thing in my mouth.

Now I’ll brush my teeth to destroy any incriminating evidence.

Ice Cream Sunday

Categories: Photos, Porter, Alice, Food — J @ 1:15 pm

After our trip to the grocery store, Porter asked to go to the ice cream store. Since I wanted to give Sarah a bit of a break, I thought sure, why not. So we went to get the kids some ice cream.

Alice digs in to her dish of chocolate.

Yum. I love chocolate ice cream.

Alice gives her ice cream a standing ovation.

Porter enjoys his cone of vanilla.

Riding the Cart

Categories: Photos, Alice — J @ 12:40 pm

It was still raining this afternoon, but I wanted to get our holiday cards mailed (finally) and so I took the kids and braved the rain. After we dropped off the cards at the post office, we stopped by the food store to pick up a few things.

Buddy Christ Railroad

Categories: Photos, Porter — J @ 9:11 am

This morning, Porter played with his trains, of course, but he also got out a few toys that he rarely plays with. One was a black bear that’s about the size of his train sets but the other is more sinister. It’s buddy christ, from the movie “Dogma” and he’s played with it before, but it’s been awhile.

Playing trains Sunday morning.

Joining Porter and his trains on the table is buddy christ. I guess it’s oddly appropriate since it’s Sunday, though curiously not the sabbath. But then there’s no end to odd behaviors that goofball beliefs will lead to.

Buddy christ and the bear. Is Jesus bear-baiting? That is a time-honored religious spectacle, so perhaps that’s what he’s doing.

Here’s buddy christ close up. He originated in the Kevin Smith movie Dogma, which I heartily recommend. It’s hilarious.

A close-up of my favorite elements of buddy christ, and his defining features. The eye-wink, thumbs up, point is what makes BC the best representation of Hey Zeus in two millenia, Michaelangelo and Da Vinci be damned. It’s the only image of him in our house, apart from some pages in many of my art books. Want your own buddy christ? You can order one at Amazon.com.
