Welcome to the Brookston family blog. We'll post updates here on what's going on in our part of the world, and especially with our son, Porter, who has been diagnosed with some form of autism. Our hope is that this blog will help us deal with all the issues we'll be facing and keep our friends and family informed as well.

My Fry Gal
Instead of pizza, we went to one of our favorite restaurants downtown, Theresa & Johnny’s Comfort Food. Porter delighted in their yummy fries and then Alice started stealing them from him.

Walking Downtown
After their haircuts we tried to take the kids out for pizza but the joint was closed. But it was still nice outside so we went downtown and walked the main street for a few minutes before stopping for lunch at one of our favorite places.

Alice Accessorizes
While Porter was getting his hair cut, Alice found a string of purple beads that matched her outfit perfectly. She kept putting them on an taking them off, trying to get the look just right.

Haircut with Gordon
After Alice’s first haircut, it was time for Porter to have his hair cut. Although he wasn’t too happy about and he kept telling the barber “that’s enough,” he still sat without squriming and wriggling out of the chair and for the second time, he didn’t sit on my lap to have his hair cut. He held one of his favorite trains, Gordon, while Eddie gave him his haircut. So all in all, he did exceptionally well again.

Alice’s First Haircut
Today Alice had her first haircut. We didn’t have much cut, we just wanted to start evening it out. She was a trooper and sat on Sarah’s lap for her haircut. She squirmed and wiggled a bit but otherwise did a great job for her first time with no crying or fussing, at least.

A little before it was time to go for Porter’s haircut he professed to feeling tired and wanting to take a nap. Personally, I think it was a ploy to avoid a haircut which he was none too happy about. So he played in the bed for a little while hoping to stall the inevitable.
“No, Dad, I’m not faking. I’m really, really tired.”
“You don’t believe this face?”
“Look, I’m yawning.”
“Alright, maybe I’m fibbing just a little bit.”

The kids spent part of the morning jumping on beds. Here the pair takes on the bed in the spare room.
