About Us

Welcome to the Brookston family blog. We'll post updates here on what's going on in our part of the world, and especially with our son, Porter, who has been diagnosed with some form of autism. Our hope is that this blog will help us deal with all the issues we'll be facing and keep our friends and family informed as well.

Running From and For the Bus

Categories: Photos, Porter, Family — J @ 3:19 pm

It was a hectic time when the bus finally did arrive with kids running to and fro, changing places and generally finding they could easily give us the slip.

As the bus arrived, Alice began waving to it.

In the excitement of seeing Grandpa, Porter dropped Gordon’s coal-tender as he got off the bus.

In the meantime, unbeknownst to me, Alice had jumped off Grandpa’s lap and made a mad dash down the hill for the bus. Porter had to dodge her in order to have a clear shot at Grandpa.

After shaking off Alice, he made a beeline for Grandpa, who was waiting with outstretched arms.

Then Porter circled around, enjoying being outside in the sunshine.

Practicing balancing on the curb, which he does faithfully every day.

Grandpa and Me

Categories: Photos, Alice, Family — J @ 12:10 pm

While we were waiting for Porter’s bus to arrive, Alice did her usual run to Grandpa. When she reached him sitting by the mailbox, she climbed up on his lap and snuggled him him. I though they looked pretty cute together so I tried to get some good shots, which is difficult because Lyman is usually rather camera shy. That’s probably what doomed his modeling career.

I love Grandpa!

This is a comfortable spot to sit.

Hey, what’s that over there?

Up on the Chair

Categories: Photos, Alice — J @ 9:01 am

Alice is simply loving her newfound ability to climb up onto most of the chairs in the house. She’s been spending quite a bit of time up on the chairs in both the dining room and the kitchen, especially when I’m in the kitchen working at the table, which is pretty often.

Up on the chair.

Working on those new teeth.

Either that or trying to pick goldfish out of them.

Oh, that’s not going to come back to haunt her later. Her first recorded dig.
