About Us

Welcome to the Brookston family blog. We'll post updates here on what's going on in our part of the world, and especially with our son, Porter, who has been diagnosed with some form of autism. Our hope is that this blog will help us deal with all the issues we'll be facing and keep our friends and family informed as well.

The Rombeiro House

Categories: Photos, Porter, Alice, Sarah — J @ 7:47 am

On Porter’s last day at Montessori last week, they gave us a hand out with some suggested things to do with the kids over the holidays. One of the items on the list was The Rombeiro House, which was also featured in the San Francisco Chronicle. From the article, we learned there was a Christmas train so we knew we had to take Porter. So after we picked up Sarah at the ferry, it was off to the Rombeiro House.

According to the article, the Rombeiro’s are a family orginally from Portugal, who got caught up in the spirit of Christmas in a big way. They begin putting up their holiday decorations in September and it takes them three months to put them away. They use over 80,000 lights just outside and their December electricity bills tops $1500. It was pretty amazing and the kids, especially Porter, were in awe. Inside almost every room is filled floor to ceiling with elaborate displays. And I mean everywhere. Every nook and cranny is filled. It makes Jim Funk’s Halloween house look positively underdressed.

Sarah tries in vain to get the kids to look at the camera. There’s just too much here to distract them.

The back bedroom is filled with a nativity scene and more.
